My name is Matilda, founder of Cartee Estates. My mom and dad worked together at an apartment complex for 19 years. My mom painted and cleaned the apartments, as well as picking up trash and assisting with other day to day tasks. My dad was the manager there, but that's not where it started! In 2001, 2 years after my mother went through a divorce from my biological father, her as well as my sister and I moved to this apartment complex. After some time, her and the assistant manager fell in love and eventually began dating. Then in 2004 he was offered the role as an apartment manager and asked my mom to move in with him. That’s how the man I proudly call dad came in to my life, and how we became a family.

Some time passed and she became the painter and cleaner for this complex as well. They worked together for almost 2 decades making sure that the needs of their residents were met. Watching them and their passion for taking care of their community inspired the vision behind Cartee Estates. 

As I grew, I was able to help them out by doing various tasks; replacing window blinds, hauling old fridges and stoves out of apartments or helping to replace them, taking out shower doors, changing locks, etc. Those were just some of the tasks that they taught me how to do. Throughout our 19 years living there, I also witnessed firsthand the impact that rent increases can have on families, especially during economically challenging times such as those felt in 2009. 

Cartee Estates is more than just buying apartments. It’s about continuing the legacy of my parents, about making a lasting difference in our community, and about providing an affordable, pet-friendly place to live where residents know they are seen, heard, and appreciated. With your support, we will be able to make this happen. All profits from this shop will go towards launching Cartee Estates by purchasing 2-3 apartment complexes, and continuing my parents' legacy.
